Why do I need to 'Register' for 2-Way-Texting?
To protect consumers from spam, North American mobile carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) now require all businesses to register their "Identity" and their "Intent" before they can send text messages. This system is called 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code).
Without this registration, your messages will be blocked or heavily filtered by the carriers.
Step 1: Creating Your "Brand" (The WHO)
To verify your business identity, we submit the following to the carriers; each field serves a specific purpose in proving you are a legitimate entity:
EIN (Employer Identification Number)
What it is: Your 9-digit federal tax ID.
This is the "Social Security Number" for your business. It is used by the carriers to verify that your business is a legally registered entity with the IRS.
Tip: Your registration will be rejected if the EIN does not exactly match the Legal Name on file with the IRS.
Legal Company Name
What it is: The official name of your business as registered with the state/IRS.
Why it's required: To prevent fraud. Carriers check this against your EIN records.
Pro-Tip: If your EIN is under "Smith Medical LLC," do not enter "Smith Dental Practice."
Display Name (Brand Name / dBA)
What it is: The name your patients actually see (e.g., "Main Street Health").
Why it's required: This name is used to identify who is sending the messages. It allows patients to recognize you immediately so they don't report the text as spam.
Website URL
What it is: Your clinic’s live, public website.
Why it's required: This is the biggest cause of rejections. Telnyx and the carriers manually visit this site to ensure your business is real.
The Telnyx Rule: You must have a working website. If your site is "under construction," lacks a Privacy Policy, or doesn't mention your business name, your 10DLC registration will be denied.
Business Address
What it is: Your physical office location.
Why it's required: To verify you are a brick-and-mortar business.
Note: P.O. Boxes are generally not accepted for 10DLC registration; it must be a physical street address.
Business Email & Contact Number
What they are: Your primary professional contact points.
Why they're required: Carriers may use these to reach out for verification.
Pro-Tip: Using a professional domain email (like
info@yourclinic.com) rather than a personal one (likeyourname@gmail.com) results in a higher "Trust Score."
Vertical (e.g., Healthcare)
What it is: The industry category your business falls into.
Why it's required: Healthcare is considered a "High Trust" vertical. Registering correctly ensures your messages (like appointment reminders) aren't throttled like generic marketing spam.
Type of Organization (e.g., Private Profit)
What it is: Your legal structure (LLC, Non-Profit, Corp, etc.).
Why it's required: This determines the tax laws and verification standards the carriers apply to your brand.
Step 2: Creating Your "Campaign" (The WHAT)
The Campaign tells the carriers why you are texting patients. This prevents "spam" and ensures you are following healthcare communication standards.
Why is this required for Two-Way Texting?
If you skip this process, the carriers treat your business number like a "personal" cell phone. When a personal number sends high volumes of links (like FormDr intake forms), the carriers assume it’s a scam and block it.
